How much does a sailing yacht charter cost?

This depends on the type of boat you are looking at and how long you will need it. Depending on your destination and dates, port charges and berthing will be more or less expensive. In high season, depending on the width of the boats, popular spots such as St Tropez, Monaco, Capri and Sardinia have expensive berthing rates. They can range from several hundred to several thousand dollars a night.

During the International Film Festival, docking in Cannes will cost more than in winter. It represents 60-80% of the final price and refers to the cost of the yacht itself, its insurance, all its equipment and toys, the salary of the crew and the services for the entire duration of the charter. Renting a yacht that appears in a James Bond movie, such as the luxury yacht Regina, will not cost the same as a regular model. However, if the yacht can rebook a different charter for the same dates, there is the possibility of a partial refund.

With the cruise industry in tatters and the desire to travel remotely more than ever, renting a yacht can seem appealing. For example, if you embark on your crewed motor yacht charter on the French Riviera in Cannes or Monaco and disembark along the Italian coast or Sardinia, French VAT will be applied to the charter rate. All of the yacht's laundry, including towels, sheets and table linen, is included in the rental rate, but some yachts charge for washing the charterer's personal items. For yachts that are chartered on the Greek islands and the mainland, another common phrase you may encounter is Greek terms or a GT contract.

On the other hand, in regions that offer a large fleet of crewed yacht charter such as the Mediterranean, luxury yacht charter costs are more attractive due to increased competition. At a basic level, renting a yacht means paying a fee to rent a superyacht from the owner for an agreed period of time with a pre-set itinerary of where you will sail on board. A shipping fee is usually charged if a charterer requests to board (or leave) a yacht at a distance from where the yacht is normally located. Most yacht charter companies only work “per week”, and yacht owners rarely accept a shorter duration.

If a yacht has a gap in its charter schedule to fill, for example, after an unexpected cancellation, some brokers will occasionally offer a limited-time charter rate discount offer. The exception to the list below is Montenegro, as you have to pay 13% VAT for every day you spend in Croatian waters, which is practically every day of your boat charter itinerary in Croatia. Communications are another cost and, with satellite and Internet communications options, an important one for most charterers.
